Made in Tuskegee Creative Courtyard

A Downtown Revitalization & Small Business Development Initiative

Project Summary

The Made in Tuskegee Creative Courtyard is a $500,000 redevelopment project transforming a long-vacant historic downtown building into a multi-use courtyard and micro-business hub for makers, farmers, food producers, and emerging entrepreneurs.

This project blends historic preservation, small business development, and food access innovation, creating a flexible, community-serving space in the heart of Tuskegee.

The Vision

To create a restored, activated downtown space that features:

  • 4 affordable micro-retail vendor spaces

  • An open-air creative courtyard for events, workshops, and market gatherings

  • Space for cashless produce vending machines supporting Black Belt farmers

  • Programming space for cultural, educational, and entrepreneurial activities

Community Need

Tuskegee’s downtown district has multiple vacant buildings and limited accessible retail or community spaces. Local entrepreneurs face challenges such as:

  • Lack of affordable commercial space

  • Limited foot traffic

  • Few opportunities to test or grow small retail concepts

  • Limited fresh produce access in the downtown core

  • Scarcity of welcoming public gathering spaces

This project directly addresses these needs with low-barrier vendor spaces, food access features, and a flexible courtyard for community use.
